To know your past, is to know yourself.
Sir, - I have received from the Foreign Office a painful account of distress among the Assyrian Christians. Mr. Shipley, H.M. Consul at Tabriz, has telegraphed home that 25,000 Syrian (Assyrian) mountaineers from Tyari and Tkhuma, in Asiatic Turkey, are now refugees at Salmas, in Persia, and that 10,000 more were expected there. He adds that these refugees are destitute, and that unless help is received numbers of them must inevitably perish, especially as the winter is close at hand and Salmas is then bitterly cold.
